Question {Du Jour}

Okay, I know I am out of the loop on many things, but can anyone explain the overly-popular use of braces in blogging? Braces are these things--> {}

I used to use <> in my writing, but since they also denote HTML tags, some sites get wonky when you use them. And SCS uses [ and ] for their post tags. But I see these braces e v e r y w h e r e, and I am not sure what they mean. Do YOU know? Do tell!!! And thanks!

  1. Mmmmm...that's a good question! I just use them because they're prettier than square or round brackets...but maybe there is a *secret* meaning to them. I hope someone has the answer.

  2. I always thought it was a symbol used to show a { hug }
    as in a {{{big hug}}}
    or

    {{{{xoxo}}}}

    ????

  3. Are you talking about crafty blogs? The curly brackets are big in the paper crafting world right now, so by natural extension they'll show up in the crafty blogs.

    And, you know, they look nice, :)

  4. {{{{HUGS}}}}

    That's how I usually use them!

  5. I like Jess's explanation. It's the new pear too.

    Actually, as a former high school math teacher, i have a mathematical explanation, but I don't think it applies to crafty blogs :)
