OWH Cards

Today I finally did it! I took the remains of a 6x6 pad of paper and I used almost all of it. GONE! I made 20 cards for OWH using the current Freshly Made Sketches sketch:

It's perfect! I used 1/2 sheets of the 6x6 pieces for the vertical element, then strips of the remnants for the horizontal element.

I won't bore you with all 20 of them, but just a few of which I'm particularly proud :)

First:

I only had one piece of this paper, and I like how much of the work it did for me. You'll also notice I didn't take my horizontal piece all the way to the edges of the card. I did that on purpose, as I thought it looked better this way.

Next:

I messed with the brightening too much here. That strip of paper is actually green. Oops.

Another one:

I made a bunch of these. I liked the Hello with the post card images.

For the rest of these, I made a few with each sentiment:

And:

I got all crazy and layered three strips of remnants on these.

Next:

More layering. I did use ALL the remnants, too. *so proud*

Last set:

See those strips of red and light blue? Those are the whole pieces I have left from the pack. Well, not those pieces exactly, because those are strips, but the remaining whole pieces are those colors/patterns. Since they are in my favorite color grouping right now, I'm pretty sure I'll use them. :)

Twenty cards - not too shabby!

Just A Note

I actually played a few sketch challenges today, so I have something to post. This card is for the current (current, I KNOW) CAS(E) This Sketch!:

I did a quite literal interpretation of the sketch:

It was just too perfect not to do it this way! *whine* I did add a layer, and I finally broke out my Lil' Inker Cloud Sky die because the clouds are so tiny.

I was so proud of myself for layering the die-cut on a piece of blue for the sky that I forgot to color the hill, so it looks like snow, even though I've colored the trees for SPRING! And I'd appreciate if you'd notice the very tiny colored window and door in the teeny tiny house. I saved them from the die cutting and stuck them back in at the end.

And for those of you who have the 1/8" Corner Chomper and don't know when you'd ever use it, this is when you'd use it. I rounded the corners of the two layers, and then did the same with the base. The 1/8" is very subtle, and just leaves things without a sharp edge. I rather like it. :)

I have a few more cards to share, so I'll be back later.

Thanks for stopping by!

Jingle Belles: Spirit of Christmas Past

The challenge for this fortnight over at Jingle Belles is Spirit of Christmas Past, and we're supposed to make something with an old-fashioned feeling.

It should come as no surprise to you that where I might have a lot of irreverence in my collection, I don't have a lot of old-fashioned stuff, or vintage-y stuff. I have old stuff, just not old enough! So what do I do? I use paper that looks old and vintage-y. Cheating is good in the crafty world.

Here's my card, then I'll explain:

I love that paper with the Santa face on it. I stamped a Hero Arts sentiment with a flourish-y font, but I couldn't just call it Done. No, I needed to actually do something here, so I decided to add a tiny vellum poinsettia. I die-cut it twice from cardstock-weight vellum and layered them. I tried to put the brad through the individual pieces, but they were so tiny I opted to glue them all to the card first, then poke one hole through the whole stack. It worked. I colored the backs of the two leaves with a Copic marker and glued them under the flower.

I used one of the brown papers from the same pack to layer the Santa piece, and stuck it to a linen card base. Now it was done!
